This document discusses the current Y2K-compliance status
of our software.
Introduction
Space Radiation was designed in 1989. At that time the potential problems
with dates beyond 1999 were understood and avoided. However, the code
relies heavily on third-party software including language compilers,
database products, operating systems, BIOS ROM, and installation software.
We have limited knowledge of potential problems with third-party software.
Correct operation can only be guaranteed by replacement or certification of
that software and hardware.
Our approach to Y2K-compliance is to ensure that all software shipped
with Space Radiation is Y2K-compliant. Our level of confidence is very
high for software written in house. For third-party products, including
compiler and installation software, we have the assurance of the
manufacturers that their software is Y2K-compliant. We assume the
user has taken all required steps to ensure the hardware, BIOS and operating
system are compliant.
Space Radiation is a simulation tool that provides engineering data used
in the development of space electronic systems. It is not operating system
or network software. It is not licensed for real-time or life-threatening
applications. Potential consequences of failure are limited.
Products
For purposes of this document, the following are defined as independent
software products:
- Space Radiation 4.5 or later (32-bit software for Windows 95/98/NT)
including Modules 201-228 (except 208)
- Space Radiation 4.0 (32-bit software for Windows 95/NT)
including Modules 201-228 (except 208)
- Space Radiation 3.0 (16-bit software for Windows 3.1)
- Space Radiation 2.5 and earlier (16-bit software for DOS)
- MapGVS 1.0 (16-bit software for Windows 3.1, 32-bit compatible)
- Single-Event Effects Database (Microsoft Access application)
- Avionics/SE (16-bit software for DOS)
Space Radiation 4.5 or later - Year 2000 Compliant
This is a new version of the software designed for operation only on
32-bit platforms including Windows 95/98/NT4. The software, including
all associated 3rd party software, are Y2K-compliant. No Y2K-related
problems have been reported.
Space Radiation 4.0
This product is not certified Year 2000 compliant. Potential problems
include the installation software. Users should upgrade to the most
recent version.
Space Radiation 4.0 Standard Edition purchased on or after July 1, 1998
is provided with a Year 2000 warranty. Should problems arise, they will
be corrected without charge.
Space Radiation 4.0 Standard Edition purchased before July 1, 1998
is not warranted.
Space Radiation modules, no matter when purchased, carry the same warranty
as the owner's Standard Edition with the same serial number. Module 208
(MapGVS 1.0) is not Y2K-compliant and is not warranted.
Space Radiation 3.0, 2.5 and earlier
Year 2000 issues will not be studied. Users should upgrade to the most
recent version.
Single-Event Effects Database, MapGVS, Avionics/SE
These products are no longer sold or supported. Year 2000 issues
have not be studied.
