Hardware Key Installation on Windows NT 4.0

Applicability

This note describes installation of the hardware key for Space Radiation Version 4 on Windows NT systems. Installation with Space Radiation Version 5 is described elsewhere.

Introduction

The Sentinel Driver is used by applications that are protected with a Sentinel hardware key on Windows NT systems. The driver makes it possible for the protected applications to communicate with the key under the Windows NT operating system. The driver must be installed on every Windows NT system on which the protected application is to be run. When the driver is installed, it must obtain information about each parallel port on the system. Typically, all ports are configured automatically. You will need to manually configure a port only if the port is not detected correctly or if you want the Sentinel Driver to ignore the port when searching for the key.

Installation

Installation of the Sentinel Driver on Windows NT requires System Administrator privileges. The driver installation procedure is as follows:
  1. Start Windows NT 4.0. Click on the Start button and select Control Panel under the Settings option.
  2. Double-click on the Multimedia icon and select the Devices tab. Press Add.
  3. Select Unlisted or Updated Driver from the list and press OK.
  4. Enter the name of the folder containing the hardware key, normally C:\SRW\KEY, and press OK. If necessary, use Browse to locate the folder.
  5. Select the option Sentinel for i386 Systems and press OK.
  6. Press OK. (For more information on this screen and problem solving, see the corresponding section on Windows NT 3.51 driver installation.)
  7. Restart your computer after installing the driver.
